Not At School Today

I’ve known about Flylady for around 6 years now, and while my home is not organised by any means, I don’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone and everyone. See, although the reality doesn’t quite match up, in my head I know exactly what to do and as soon as I discipline myself to fully embrace her system, our lives will be sorted. Well, maybe not, but certainly my mess is my own, and Flylady definitely provides all the tools I need to fix it.

Here are some of Flylady’s maxims that have lodged themselves into my head no matter what, and probably keep our house from going under!

1. You can do anything for 15 minutes. I regularly use the timer to govern my tasks, and it is true that housework does not seem so daunting when you split it up so. And it is amazing what you can get done in 15 minutes!

2. Split your house into Zones. I have managed to get these areas in my head, and concentrate on one area a week, whether it be for decluttering, organizing or cleaning.

3. Finish one lot of laundry before moving on to the next. This has worked really well for me – to see one entire load through washing, drying and putting away – to make sure that the pile never gets too out of hand.

4. What’s for dinner? Thinking about this the night before, and getting frozen stuff out in time, has been a real panic-saver come 5pm!

5. Always get dressed to your shoes. It is true that when I have my shoes on I feel more prepared and ready to face the day.
